IF (2024) Review

ComicBook critic Jamie Jirak's IF movie review gives the film 3.5 out of 5 stars:

The film does a good job of reminding its audience that there's a kid in all of us, and that time can never truly take away your imagination. It's been a while since I looked around in a theater and saw multiple grown men shedding a tear. Krasinski knows how to appeal to parents, especially dads. While IF may not be a perfectly pieced-together movie, there's enough heart embedded in its core to make it a worthy trip to the cinema for families. The cast is delightful, the IFs are magical, and the warmth is undeniable.

Anime's Newest Hit Takes the Power Rangers and Channels The Boys https://comicbook.com/anime/news/go-go-loser-ranger-anime-power-rangers-meets-the-boys/ Fri, 03 May 2024 22:29:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 77440139-afd1-463c-9c3a-ad48f1b1dd03

Go Go Loser Ranger is like no other anime on the market today, or perhaps no other anime that has ever existed. Taking the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers franchise and turning it on its head, this anime series might just have something for everyone. Thanks to the Divine Dragon Rangers' secrets that they hold back from the public, the anime adaptation isn't just a play on the Sentai franchise but also feels like a tribute to Homelander, The Seven, and the world of The Boys.

Go Go Loser Ranger starts how you might expect when it comes to any of the Power Rangers series that have arrived in the past. What viewers learn is that the Rangers of this world have long since defeated the monsters that were attempting to take over the surface. The "Villainous Army of Evil" still exist but they are effectively the play things of this world's rangers, as the Divine Dragon Rangers find themselves wheeling out the "footsoldiers" to defeat ad nauseum for an adoring public. This repeating act hints at the true sadism of these anime Rangers, which begins to unfold in a similar structure to The Boys, showing that the Red Ranger has more than a little in common with Homelander.

The Divine Dragon Boys

Of course, the Rangers aren't the only ones that play a role in this anime. Much like Hughie from The Boys, Footsodlier D finds himself dragged into a world that he didn't expect as he attempts to get revenge against the super-powered individuals keeping him down. Much like the group formed by Butcher, Footsoldier D is going to find himself with the opportunity to take a swing at his tormentors, but will his world become worse due to this?

If you want to catch the current episodes of Go Go Loser Ranger, the installments are streaming on Hulu. Here's how the streaming service describes the series, "When the Monster Army invaded Earth thirteen years ago, the Divine Dragon Rangers rose up to stop them! With the war raging on, these great heroes are mankind's Last Hope!...or are they? In truth, the invaders were subjugated within a year, forced to continue to crank out a monster a week for the Rangers to crush in front of their adoring fans! But one monster has had enough. Something has to change! He'll rebel against the might of the Dragon Rangers and destroy them all...from the inside!"

PLUS, TV recap of X-Men '97 Episode 7 and Bastion's debut, a review of the Sonic spinoff series Knuckles, and a look at the WWE Draft!

Knuckles Review

In his review of Knuckles, ComicBook.com's Marc Deschamps wrote:

Despite some small issues I had with the show, I found Knuckles to be a delightful new chapter in the ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe. What could have been a drawn out movie with a lower budget is instead an absurdly hilarious adventure that adds more depth to a pair of established characters. The music's great, and Adam Pally and Idris Elba might have better chemistry than we even saw between Ben Schwartz and James Marsden. There are bound to be some Sega fans disappointed that the show doesn't feature a bigger threat, or more of a presence from Sonic and friends. We should get both of those things in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 though, and I'm happy that we got something weird and unique to flesh out this universe. Knuckles is not going to be the Sega adaptation anyone is expecting, but it's a wild ride worth taking, especially for fans of the Sonic films.

Rebel Moon Part 2 Review & Transformers One Trailer Reactions https://comicbook.com/movies/news/rebel-moon-2-review-transformers-one-reactions-x-men-97-shogun-recaps/ Fri, 19 Apr 2024 21:38:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 73a548d1-d0ad-4e60-a23d-6818cb8aa442

The ComicBook Nation Crew reviews Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver, Guy Ritchie's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Radio Silence's new horror flick Abigail.

TV recaps include big things happening in Fallout, X-Men '97, and Shogun. PLUS our first reactions to the Transformers: ONE trailer, Netflix's The Witcher gets its Final Season, and a preview of the AEW Dynasty event!

Abigail Review

abigail-movie.jpg

Host Kofi Outlaw gave Abigail 3.5. out of 5 stars in his review:

As many horror fans will wonder: Abigail (thankfully) never takes itself too seriously; never pretends the audience doesn't know the twist, or ever imagines being anything other than an efficiently executed, single-setting, (and literally) ripping-and-roaring good time. It doesn't re-invent the B-movie horror wheel in any way, but its balanced blend of heist action, crime drama, gore horror, and comedy does make it a uniquely fun experience, from a director team that is hitting its best strides.

Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Review

Patrick Cavanaugh gives the film 2 out of 5 stars in his review:

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is mostly a harmless outing that isn't actively bad, and even has isolated incidents of charm, if even just accidentally. It's hard to pull together a cast like this and end up without anything entertaining, so the stars are the ones who deserve the most credit in the experience. The overall product, however, feels like the distillation of Ritchie's career, in that he wants to embrace the roots of his more effective and abrasive cinematic sensibilities yet also doesn't want to commit to anything too provocative that won't prevent Disney from offering him Aladdin 2... instead feeling like an entirely inoffensive and forgettable film that would have otherwise been released straight to VOD if not for a somewhat recognizable cast.
